Carrie Kaufman, Host/Producer of KNPR's State of Nevada, sits down with Emmy nominated costume designer and this year's Nevada Woman of Achievement Award Recipient, Diana Eden, for an intriguing conversation about her thirty years in Hollywood, designing fourteen prime-time TV series, sixteen pilots, a plethora of movies for TV and numerous feature films.

Nevada Women's Film Festival is proud to announce our first ever Nevada Woman of Achievement recipient, Diana Eden! Diana spent thirty years in Hollywood, costume designing fourteen prime-time TV series, sixteen pilots, movies for TV and feature films before moving to Las Vegas in 2008. In addition, she has designed dozens of stage productions both in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and New York. Diana didn't start out to be a Costume Designer. All she ever wanted was to become a famous ballerina! Born in England and raised in Canada, she studied ballet intensively and at age fifteen she was asked to join the National Ballet Company of Canada on their first visit to Washington DC. By age sixteen she had grown two more inches and was too tall for ballet, so she detoured from her expected path to study History of Art at the University of Toronto. Following graduation she started her Broadway dancing career, appearing in a number of Broadway shows, and then graduating to principle acting roles. Moving to Los Angeles in 1968, a chance encounter with a producer diverted her again into costume design, where she has remained ever since. Diana received an Emmy nomination for A League of Their Own, plus two more Emmy nominations for NBC’s Passions. Since her move to Las Vegas in 2008, she has taught at UNLV for both the film department and the theater department. She has designed several feature films and stage productions in Las Vegas, including Stealing Las Vegas and The Trust with Nicolas Cage and Elijah Wood, for which she was Assistant Costume Designer to Mona May. Recently she served as Costume Shopper for Oscar winning Costume Designer Mark Bridges for the film Jason Bourne. Moderated by Carrie Kaufman Carrie Kaufman is Host/Producer for KNPR’s State of Nevada. She has been a print, digital and radio journalist for 25 years. She founded and published PerformInk, Chicago’s theatre and film newspaper, which became the bible for actors, directors, designers, filmmakers, and funders, as well as audiences wanting to be in the know. At PerformInk, she was the recipient of two Peter Lisagor Awards for Excellence in Journalism – for a feature on Uta Hagen, and for her extensive coverage of the Screen Actors’ Guild Strike of 2000. In 2007, Carrie was a top 10 finalist in the Public Radio Talent Quest, which sent her headlong into the medium of radio production. Previously she was one of the original hosts of Les-Bi-Gay Radio in Chicago. She is also a musician, and has worked as a consultant for various non-profit arts groups. Carrie grew up in Las Vegas, and returned in 2014 with her twin daughters to the city whose mountains she still dreamt about. |
